This\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/document\/policy-manual-updates\/20220802-UncharacterizedDischarges.pdf\" type=\"application\/pdf; length=348389\" data-entity-substitution=\"media\" data-entity-type=\"media\" data-lang=\"en\">policy guidance<span class=\"file-info\">\u00a0(PDF, 340.22 KB)<\/span><\/a>\u00a0changes the USCIS interpretation of \u201cunder honorable conditions\u201d to encompass Uncharacterized discharges as well as Honorable and General-Under Honorable Conditions discharges.<\/p><p>This interpretation aligns with a Department of Defense instruction on the interpretation of discharges and with a recent district court decision. This guidance will be effective upon publication of the Policy Manual update and will apply to all pending and future applications.
